Press Release

New Year’s Day Charity Swim

13 December 2017

On Monday, 1st January 2018 over 250 daredevil open water swimmers are expected to leap into the icy 5˚c water in Dock 9, MediaCityUK to celebrate the start of the new year and raise over £4,000 for charity.

Organised by outdoor swimming specialists Uswim, the popular, annual event will provide a safe environment for swimmers of all ages to complete the 250m swim challenge to help boost the coffers of the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice charity.

There will also be a food collection which will be donated to the food bank based at the Well Baptist Church in Farnworth, Bolton.

Dave Quartermain, Director of Uswim said: “Throughout the year our open water swims and events in the dock attract over 20,000 swimmers so our annual new year’s day charity swim is a way of giving something back to the community and a fun and challenging way to start the year. All our dedicated staff will give their time for free because it’s for such a great cause.”

All swimmers will receive a commemorative swim cap thanks to event sponsor The Morson Group and there will be a competition for the funkiest swim hat.
