MediaCity based Not for Profit ‘The Reporters’ Academy’ selected for Co-op Community Initiative

MediaCity based The Reporters’ Academy has been selected as a chosen charity for Co-op’s Local Community Fund. The not-for-profit media production company specialises in teaching media skills and growing the confidence and employability of vulnerable young people and will now receive support from Co-op members.

The Co-op Local Community Fund supports projects across the UK that help people with access to food, mental wellbeing support and education and employment for young people. Since the fund began, over £100m has been raised for local causes across the country.

With the money donated, The Reporters’ Academy will deliver media training to vulnerable young people to create short films around unsung heroes in their community. They’ll be using the funds raised to support their network of young people to help them on their paths to education or employment, and also put back into the community through the content they create.

“We’re delighted to be part of the Co-op Local Community Fund,” says Director Hope Gorton. “With the new Co-op store soon opening in MediaCity too, it feels like the perfect time to partner up with an organisation that has a very similar ethos to our own. By selecting us as your chosen cause, we’ll receive funding that will go directly into creating exciting opportunities for our young people. As a not-for-profit media production company, support through funds like this helps us maximise the impact helping disadvantaged young people gain new skills and blossom into confident individuals who are ready for further education or employment.”

To support The Reporters’ Academy, registered members can select them as their chosen cause through the Co-op app. Then, everytime members buy selected Co-op branded products and services in store, The Reporters’ Academy will receive a helping hand.

The Reporters’ Academy have created a video to explain that process in more detail. https://youtu.be/Ybo4q0PObuI
