MediaCity showcases teenagers with talent on big screen
MediaCity was delighted to welcome 15, year 11 pupils from Co-op Swinton Academy to celebrate their photographic talents and give them a behind the scenes tour of its world-class studios in dock10.
Through the Academy’s partnership with the charity I4YPC, which aims to tackle the increasing number of school exclusions through education and the creative arts, the children took part in the nationwide ‘Snap Your Town’ initiative.
The project culminated in an outdoor exhibition project, which displayed a selection of their striking images taken across Salford and Manchester on huge billboards across the City and for the first time beamed from MediaCity’s giant digital screen overlooking the gardens and piazza.
Jo Whittaker, from MediaCity said: “We first heard about I4YPC’s amazing work during MediaCity’s ‘Spotlight on Skills’ event where the charity’s CEO, Micky Dacks spoke about its work in engaging with local young people through the arts to inspire and educate. Hopefully, by seeing their striking imagery celebrated on our big screen as well as gaining an insight into the broadcast industry at dock10, it will inspire these young people to pursue many of the educational and hands-on opportunities available to them at MediaCity.”
Micky Dacks, CEO, I4YPC added: “I’ve been blown away by MediaCity’s commitment to showcasing the incredible photography captured by Salford’s young people, right here on their doorstep.
As an Arts and education charity dedicated to providing aspirational projects for young people, it’s brilliant that MediaCity partnered with us to make this an unforgettable and lifelong experience for Salford’s young people.
We’re sincerely grateful to everyone involved, for making the young people feel so welcome, so inspired and for MediaCity’s overall hospitality.
We look forward to working with MediaCity again, to enable further opportunities for our young people to prosper.
