The Vic shortlisted for PFM Partnership Awards 2019
One of MediaCityUK’s character buildings, ‘The Vic’ has been shortlisted in the Premises and Facilities Management Partnership Awards 2019 within the Partners in Energy Management category alongside building services maintenance contractor, Engie.
Peel L&P, the owner and developer of the building, has recently invested in a £9 million major refurbishment including the installation of state-of-the-art energy saving equipment which forecasts a reduction in gas and electricity use of over 1 million kWh, which is nearly 600 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Subject to Peel L&P’s well-established ISO 50001 energy management system, which sets a minimum target of 3% annual energy reduction for each asset it manages, The Vic is on target to beat this figure by over 20%.
Paul Chappels, Senior Asset Manager at Peel L&P said:
“The Vic refurbishment presented the ideal opportunity to introduce cutting-edge technology into the building to make it as energy efficient as possible. This makes great sense for tenants, ourselves as managers of the office space and also the environment in terms of lowering the carbon footprint of our building.”
“We’re pleased to have been shortlisted for the Partners in Energy Management category, alongside our long-time facilities management provider, Engie who we have partnered with for 30 years. As a property owner with well-established credentials in the energy management sector, we have used our experience to spend our money wisely and achieve maximum impact to future-proof The Vic.”
In addition, The Vic has been recognised by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) as a case study focusing on the journey to achieving carbon neutral.
Peel L&P was the first major UK property group to achieve ISO 50001 in 2015, re-certifying in 2018, it was also the highest-ranked property company benchmarked by the Carbon Trust in 2012, and the first developer to achieve the BREEAM Communities standard at its MediaCityUK development in 2011.
Paul concludes: “Our investment in energy saving at ‘The Vic’ is an example of our continuing commitment to saving energy and reducing our carbon emissions across our whole portfolio.”
This year’s awards will be presented at The Brewery in London on the evening of 6 November.
