ENGIE and Peel L&P win at PFM Partnership Awards 2019

Nearing a 30-year partnership, Peel L&P and building services maintenance contractor, ENGIE have been awarded with the Partners in Energy Management award at the Premises and Facilities Management Partnership Awards 201

The award submission was based on the recent refurbishment of one of MediaCityUK’s character buildings, ‘The Vic’.

Owner and developer of the ‘The Vic’, Peel L&P has invested in a £9 million major renovation including the installation of state-of-the-art energy saving equipment which forecasts a reduction in gas and electricity use of over 1 million kWh, which is nearly 600 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Paul Chappels at Peel L&P said: “We were thrilled to accept the award on stage with the ENGIE team; this award is testament to our long-time partnership. We are proud of our longstanding partnership with ENGIE and look forward to working with them on future energy management projects.”

The PFM Partnership Awards 2019 judges said this partnership had clearly achieved exemplary standards in partnership working and energy management that would continue to be further extended in the future.

“The Vic refurbishment was the perfect project to showcase how we introduce cutting-edge technology to make our buildings as energy efficient as possible. As a property owner with well-established ISO 50001 energy management system, we have spent our money wisely to achieve maximum impact to future-proof The Vic.”

John Lyons, Commercial Portfolio Director at ENGIE commented: “We are delighted to receive the Partners in Energy Management award from PFM. The achievements recognised through this award, demonstrate the strong partnership between ENGIE and Peel L&P which spans nearly 30 years. During this time, we have worked closely together to deliver shared objectives that have achieved significant results, and we look forward to building on this in the future.”

Subject to Peel L&P’s well-established ISO 50001 energy management system, which sets a minimum target of 3% annual energy reduction for each asset it manages, The Vic is on target to beat this figure by over 20%. In addition, The Vic has been recognised by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) as a case study focusing on the journey to achieving carbon neutral.

Peel L&P was the first major UK property group to achieve ISO 50001 in 2015, re-certifying in 2018, it was also the highest-ranked property company benchmarked by the Carbon Trust in 2012, and the first developer to achieve the BREEAM Communities standard at its MediaCityUK development in 2011.
