Classic Car Boot Sale a hit with design aficionados in the North

Over 4000 classic vehicle buffs, music and fashion lovers descended on MediaCity over the weekend for the first Classic Car Boot Sale to be hosted north of  London.

The event, which has a passionate following of devotees at its long term home in London’s King’s Cross, has for the first time brought the concept to the North – earmarking MediaCity as the place to debut this unique event.

Visitors to the Piazza were treated to a special display of Ford Mustangs to mark the 60th Anniversary of these cars which have featured in memorable movies such as Goldfinger and Bullit. A vast array of vehicles included an immaculate 1949 MG TC, a 1968 Pontiac Catalina Coupe and 1965 Corvette Stingray convertible, a 1975 Renault 12TL, which featured in the BBC TV series Life on Mars as well as an iconic 1980’s A-Team Van.

Interspersed between these much-loved classics were 35 of the finest preloved traders in the country, selling an eclectic array of wares from vintage clothes to crockery from the classic car boots.

One of the many highlights from the weekend was the vintage double decker Routemaster bus, where a rotating roster of DJs covering everything from acid jazz to reggae and RnB played to the crowds from the open top deck.

The Classic Car Boot Sale co-founder Wayne Hemingway said: “The weekend was a true celebration of the history of automotive, fashion and homeware design all set to a soundtrack of the history of cool music and to see MediaCity’s public space enlivened in such a unique way was quite magical. Out of all the destinations we could have introduced this event to the north – MediaCity was a no brainer. It has a reputation as place that makes ‘firsts’ happen from the We Invented the Weekend cultural festival to hosting immersive art exhibitions such as Van Gogh Alive. Its activations just keep getting bigger and better.”
