It’s 4 days to go until the first ever The Classic Car Boot Sale in the North.
Taking place at MediaCity on the 20th and 21st July 2024 , The Classic Car Boot Sale is a one-of-a-kind event. It assembles and matches the finest vintage and sustainable fashion, accessories and homeware traders from across the UK and gathers them all in one location to trade out of the boots of some of the finest classic cars in the country.
Amongst the assortment of 30 rare and wonderful wheels booked for the weekend event is a 1975 Renault 12TL, which featured in the BBC TV series Life on Mars, filmed partly in Salford in 2007, as well as an iconic 1980’s A-Team Van.
There will also be a special display of Ford Mustangs to mark the 60th Anniversary of these cars which have featured in memorable movies such as Goldfinger and Bullit.
Additional award-winning cars on display include an immaculate 1949 MG TC, which has bagged 14 show awards to date, plus a 1968 Pontiac Catalina Coupe and 1965 Corvette Stingray convertible.
The Classic Car Boot Sale will also be bringing together more than 35 of the finest preloved traders in the country, some with up to 50 years’ experience in the game.
Maggie Harding who runs Garbo has been trading in vintage costume for over 50 years and has supplied to film and television companies including Downton Abbey, Mr Selfridge, Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children, and Call the Midwife. More recently she found and sold some antique dresses which belonged to the Cartier Family dating from the 1850s.
Twintage, run by identical twins Kity and Suzie, will offer original hand-picked vintage clothing and accessories, with an emphasis on the 1960s and 70s.
Author of the book ‘Style me Vintage Home’, Keeley Rossendale, will also be bringing her 16 years of sustainable trading to the event, selling homewares, small furniture, as well as fashion and textiles.
Along with stunning fashion, homewares, and cars, The Classic Car Boot Sale will have DJs playing everything from the rockabilly through 60s garage and beat, to reggae and ska, glam rock, Northern Soul, punk, disco, 80s, electronica, with a bit of cool easy listening thrown in for good measure.
One notable inclusion to the Saturday line-up is BBC 6 Music DJ and presenter Afrodeutcshe, who will be playing a unique mix of easy listening, soundtrack, and Japanese neo soul – something she has never done before.
A vintage double decker Routemaster bus, converted into a bar on the lower deck and open topped upper deck for the DJ’s to play out to the crowd, will see the likes of Charms (reggae), Lena C (Balearic), Lounge Lizards (60s garage, Surf, RnB), Vinyl Resting Place (80s, punk, rock and pop), Hewan Clarke (acid jazz, soul) and Nathan Shepherd (indie, rock and pop) entertain visitors on Saturday 20th July.
On Sunday, Mr Klemit (reggae), Pasta Paul (Balearic), Standy Votel (60s Brazilian, Turkish psych), Cavegirl and the Neandergals (50s rockabilly), Northern Grooves (Northern Soul), and Sophie Dee Gee (70s glam, 80s new wave) all grace the top deck of the Routemaster bus.
Having worked together on the MediaCity megafest ‘We Invented the Weekend’, and the Salford smash hit ‘Charity Super.Mkt’, The Classic Car Boot Sale co-founder & prolific record collector Wayne Hemingway, alongside DJ/Producer Ailsa McLaggan (Living Room Dance Club/Reform Radio/BBC6music) will unite their musical minds and vinyl collection behind the decks to close the weekend in spectacular style with a disco soundclash.
Along with a wonderful array of independent food traders to keep energies up and tummies happy, the Classic Car Boot Sale will also see several Charity Super.Mkt stalls in attendance, selling the very best in preloved fashion, and in turn raising money for several charitable causes.
The Classic Car Boot Sale is taking place from 10am-6pm on both Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July 2024 and will be located on the MediaCity Piazza. Early bird tickets are available online priced at just £6 and can be purchased from the Classic Car Boot Sale website https://www.citizenticket.com/events/hemingwaydesign/the-classic-car-boot-sale-mediacity/ and on the day entry will be priced at £7.
