We Invented the Weekend will throw open all of MediaCity and Salford Quays’ spaces and places to celebrate the joy of free time with a glorious mix of sports, music, greening and gardening, theatre, dance, workshops, talks, food, charity, wellness, crafts and more.
The festival will also be a weekend of big thinking covering music, sport, fashion, the future of work, climate crisis, food and the built environment, and will discuss the findings of this survey and the ways in which free time is changing and evolving.
Wayne Hemingway MBE , creative director of We Invented the Weekend, comments: ““We Invented the Weekend, was born when we found out that the weekend was invented by a Salford based activist. This was an incredible gift to the world, but as this study has shown, whilst we want to spend our weekends relaxing, many are caught up with household chores.
“We Invented the Weekend aims to champion the importance of our free time and all the different ways we can enjoy it. It’s completely free to attend, which ensures that as the cost of living rises, culture is still available for all and we welcome everyone to come along and for a few hours at least , let their hair down and forget those chores!”
